A BUNBURY man has started a chain of goodwill after he volunteered to help repair a number of Prinsep Street shopfront windows which were vandalised on Saturday night.
Kendall Swann didn't want any money for the job, but instead was inspired to collect donations from the shop owners who were hit by the vandals.
He managed to raise $800 which will go the the local Foodbank, a charity which is close to his heart.
Foodbank manager Carol Hearn was delighted by Mr Swann's generosity.
“Guys like Kendall restore my faith in humanity and it‘s just wonderful that he wants to help us out,” Ms Hearn said.
“We are always looking for donations because we have already had to purchase $200,000 worth of food this year.”
For Mr Swann the good deed was about giving back to an organisation that had helped him out when he was in desperate need of food, he said.
“There were times when I couldn’t eat and these guys came to my rescue,” Mr Swann said.
“I grew up as a foster child and know how hard it can be out there.
“I believe that it’s a boomerang effect and we need to get behind and support something which is local.”
The shop owners on Prinsep Street were outraged at the vandals' senseless crime.
The worst hit was The Happy Herb shop and owner Brad Hopgood said he was annoyed that the perpetrators could get away with it.
“I am outraged because the people who did this don’t care or realise how this is going to affect my business,” Mr Hopgood said.
“Now I have to get the whole shop window replaced because the scratching is so deep it can’t be buffed out.”
Mr Swann has his own car detailing business and also donates $30 from each service to the Foodbank.
He said he performed one car detail a day, so his aim is to donate $150 a week.
