MORE than seven per cent of residents living in Bunbury’s 6230 postcode are signed up to online “cheating” website Ashley Madison, which equates to about 2500 accounts.
Ashley Madison is an online dating site for people looking to have extramarital affairs. Its slogan is "Life is short. Have an affair", and it claims to be "the most famous name in infidelity and married dating".
It is owned by Canadian company Avid Life Media (ALM), which owns two other hookup sites, Cougar Life and Established Men.
On July 21, news broke of an individual or group claiming to have hacked Ashley Madison's corporate and user databases, gaining access to highly sensitive information about the company and its more than 30 million members across the globe.
WA's most cheating suburbs revealed
Perth's love cheats continue to sweat as the latest revelation to emerge from the Ashley Madison hack shows hundreds of users around WA have been exposed and the state's hottest suburbs for accounts revealed.
A database compiled by NationMaster shows that 275 Ashley Madison CBD-registered accounts were hacked, or 2.3 per cent of the inner city's more than 11,000 residents.
The Scarborough-Wembley Downs area appeared to host the largest number of accounts outside the CBD, with 54 accounts registered to people in the region.
Australia's most adulterous postcodes have been revealed, at least as far as Ashley Madison customers go, as internet users continue to scour data from the cheating site's massive leak. I
The suburbs of Aveley, Belhus and Brigadoon also seem to be hotspots for those "looking for someone other than their wives (or husbands)", with 47 accounts exposed.
Other standouts include the Burns Beach-Currambine-Iluka area, which was found to have 39 people linked to the website, and the Carlisle area, recording 32 accounts. Another 32 were registered to the Burswood region.
"We went through the credit card transactions from the Ashley Madison dump to find unique users and used this to identify the most adulterous places in the country – or at least the most curious about Ashley Madison," NationMaster said of its demographic analysis.
In Victoria, Melbourne, Melton and Frankston are the hotspots and in NSW it's Barangaroo, Newcastle and Lavender Bay, according to location and credit card data included in the leak.
And Canberra — capital of our fine nation — ranks right up high.
The analysis comes from data scientists working at Fairfax Media who are analysing the data, and from developer Luke Metcalfe, who works at online property search engine NationMaster.
Fairfax Media's map draws on the locations that users entered when signing up to Ashley Madison.
People can easily insert fake addresses, but there are strong incentives to insert an address close to where you live or work as Ashley Madison goes to some lengths to pair users with other adulterers in their local area.
