SCHOOLS in Bunbury have been challenged to grow the biggest pumpkin possible in a fun new competition.
Harcourts Bunbury has teamed up with Mumballup Organics who are donating 10 bags of fertiliser and seeds are being donated by the Diggers Club.
There will be advice given on how to grow the pumpkin and at the seasons end the heaviest pumpkin grower will be awarded the inaugural trophy.
Organiser of the event, Den Baldwin said the competition was about encouraging schools to get behind teaching basic gardening skills and for the kids to have a bit of fun.
Once the pumpkins are grown they will be weighed in and the kids will be encouraged to think about how they can use the pumpkins.
“Such as scones, muffins and soup,” he said.
“This is really just about the kids in the garden and having a bit of fun.
“They will use their measuring skills to record the growth each month and to take photos of their pumpkins.”
Photos of the monthly growing progress and a short story will be required from each school which will be published in the Bunbury Mail.
