TOURISM in Dardanup’s Ferguson Valley continues to surge ahead as it plays host to the annual WA State Open Road Championship next month.
It will be the first time the event is held outside of Perth, with WA’s best road cyclists set to converge on Wellington Dam.
More than 150 riders plus potentially hundreds of spectators will be drawn to the area for the event on Saturday, September 26.
The race, supported by the Dardanup shire, will start and finish at the Wellington Dam’s Collie River Dam Kiosk with some roads set to be closed to traffic for the event, creating outstanding vantage points for spectators along the course.
The Open and Masters Men’s event covers 109 kilometres while the Open and Masters Women’s event is 69 kilometres.
Also included in the event program is B & C grade men’s and B/C grade Women and also a D grade support mixed race providing something for every level of rider.
Riders will travel in a loop along Falcon Road, Pile Road, Mungalup Road, Lennard Road and River Road.
The Championship is organised by the 225 Racing Cycle Club and information is available online at www.wa.cycling.org.au or the event Facebook Page.
More information about road closure times, access and locations of spectator vantage points will be publicised in coming weeks.
Just over a week later on Sunday, October 4 the South West Cycle Club will hold the Dardanup leg of the popular 2015 Cristal Titanium Team Series, drawing teams from across the state and, cementing the Ferguson Valley’s position as a favoured location within the cycling community for its stunning scenery and challenging terrain.
The Dardanup leg is proudly supported by the Shire of Dardanup.
