Busselton Soccer Club's league men's side wrapped up a memorable season with a 1-0 win against Dalyellup in the South West Cup final at Hay Park on Sunday.
The triumph saw Busselton complete the league and cup double in 2015 after they finished six points clear of Australind at the completion of the regular season.
Despite finishing fifth on the ladder Dalyellup entered the match on a six-game unbeaten run, including a 4-0 demolition of Margaret River in the semi-final, while Busselton defeated Australind 4-1 to reach the decider.
The first half of the match was a rather dour affair with both defences on top. Danny Kane and Ianto Ward bossed the midfield early on for Busselton but, couldn't find a way through a disciplined Dalyellup backline.
Busselton's biggest threat came from set-pieces while Dalyellup looked dangerous on the counter attack but, neither side had any clear-cut chances in the first half and the score was locked at 0-0 at halftime.
After the break things started to open up a bit although the first action in the referees book was a couple of yellow cards for rough challenges.
But, then the breakthrough arrived courtesy of a cross from the right wing which saw Busselton striker Danny Keogh rise above two Dalyellup defenders to head home and give his side the lead.
Dalyellup pushed for an equaliser and they almost found it when a long-range volley from Scott Geare beat the Busselton keeper. However, the shot bounced down off the cross bar and was cleared by the Busselton defence to safety.
In a final desperate push to find an equaliser, Dalyellup brought on a third striker and it almost paid dividends but, player/coach Steve Hands headed wide from close range.
From then on the Busselton defence held firm under pressure and held on to claim a gritty 1-0 win.
Busselton coach Shane Russell paid tribute to Dalyellup, his players and Hay Park for hosting the South West Cup Final in his victory speech while, Danny Keogh won the Ron Moss medal as the player of the match.
