ROUGH and windy conditions greeted the first volunteer life saving patrols of the season on Sunday.
But despite the bad weather turning beachgoers away, it did little to ease the job on patrols.
Patrol captain Jim Smith used the time to put the volunteers through proficiency requirements such as the 400 metre swim.
Donning their wetsuits, patrol members braved the very rough waters to complete this part of their ongoing training.
The rough conditions provided a chance for some inflatable rescue boat training.
Patrols used this time to hone their skills at overcoming rough waves.
The patrol assisted people with two prevention measures when a patrol member pointed out possible hazards to the beach users.
Prevention is a key part of the patrol’s work to educate beach users about their safety.
Volunteer surf life saving patrols will be provided each Sunday from 12pm to 4pm until November 7 when patrols resume on Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday.
