Could it be that AC/DC have played their last ever shows in Perth?
About 80,000 people certainly hope not after two blistering concerts at Subi on Friday and Sunday nights.
If you were there your ears are probably still ringing.
If you missed it you’ll be kicking yourself forever, unless of course you live this side of Coolgardie where even the camels would have been wondering what the noise was - it was loud!
Opening with the title track of their 17th studio album and the name of the tour, Rock or Bust, it was full blown, gutsy rock from the off.
There is no BS with Acca Dacca, we all know exactly what to expect.
No theatrics, though the lighting and fireworks were way over the top, especially the finale, and the crowd cheered every riff as if lives depended upon it.
This is considered by AC/DC’s legion of fans as home territory with Bon Scott hailing from Perth, and a pilgrimage to Bon’s marker at Freo Cemetery is a must for the diehards.
Many internationals would surely have made the trip.
For many years every time they played in WA, Bon’s Mum Isa had a special area reserved for her at the shows.
Sadly she passed away in 2011 but I’m sure she was still at Subi in spirit, and Bon still had plenty of fans there as well.
And then there is the icon that is Angus Young.
He is the star of the band and every show.
At 60 he looks like a decent puff of wind could do him in but when he picks up that axe he becomes the Energiser bunny on something I’d like a prescription of to keep me going!
He simply never stops, running from one end of the massive stage to the other, spending most of his time at the fat end of his fret board and driving the crowd to a near frenzy. He is magnificent.
AC/DC can play as much new material as they like but the punters want the big stuff; High Voltage, Dirty Deeds, Rosie, TNT, Thunderstruck and Back In Black. They were all there.
I would have liked a bit of talk and interaction with the crowd between songs rather than just playing but when I raised that point with a few mates I was howled down and told that’s not what it’s about (boofhead), it’s just the music.
And that will do nicely.
