After three years falling just short of selection, Bunbury netballer Cassady Anderson has been named to represent WA at the National Netball Championships in Perth this April.
Anderson said she was shocked at her selection, but was thrilled be donning her state’s colours.
“Each side is named on the state’s website and I kept refreshing the page to see if my name was on it,” she said.
“When I saw my name was first on the list I was really excited.”
Anderson has been attempting to make it to the WA side for the past three years but fell short in each tryout phase.
But after giving up basketball and putting her sole focus on netball, she was able to make the cut.
“It was hard to let go of basketball – I’d represented the state five times and really enjoyed playing it,”

However, Anderson admitted giving up basketball was not an easy choice.
“It was hard to let go of basketball – I’d represented the state five times and really enjoyed playing it,” she said.
“But I felt I needed to put all my effort into one sport and I enjoyed netball a little more, so I decided to go all out for it.”
Anderson, 16, has now been playing netball for just four years.
“I began playing netball because I was looking for something a little different,” she said.
“I never really thought I’d be trying out for state teams but it’s really exciting.”
“I’ve been travelling to Perth three or four times a week so it’s good that it all pays off.”

Anderson made it through a rigorous selection and tryout process to make the side.
“There are a lot of cuts and then training programs to follow, so it’s great to make it through,” she said.
