A MAN caught stealing a pair of pants from City Beach in Bunbury’s Centre Point Shopping Centre before punching a security guard in a drunken rampage has faced court.
Adam Christopher Rohan faced the Bunbury Magistrates Court on February 4, pleading guilty to charges of breach of bail, common assault, disorderly behaviour in public and stealing.
The court heard at 4.42pm on January 7 this year, the 36-year-old entered the City Beach store before selecting a pair of DC brand pants.
He entered the change room where he put the pants on underneath the pair he was already wearing.
Before exiting the store, he selected a Jacks brand hat but damaged it as he attempted to remove the security.
As he attempted to exit the store, an anti-theft device on the pants set off the alarm system before he was approached by staff.
Two security officers approached Rohan at the front of the store but he ran from the officers.
At the front of the Boost Juice store, Rohan resisted violently, overturning a table in the direction of the officers, shouting aggressively and yelling profanities and threats at them.
The act was witnessed by a large number of the public including children.
Rohan restrained being apprehended but was taken towards the centre’s management office where he was seated to await police.
He then stood up from where he was seated and approached one of the officers, punching him in the right side of his face with a closed fist.
The officer reported a swollen and sore lip.
As part of his bail conditions he was not allowed to enter the shopping centre but did so on January 9 when he attended the Liquor Land store.
Rohan’s lawyer said leading up to the incident, he was not going well mentally, being diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic with bipolar.
His memory from the incident was “patchy” and it was described as an impulsive and out of character decision.
He was fined $1500 in total.
