BUNBURY is the South West’s first cab off the rank as Telstra launched its new high-speed technology services for NBN at the Telstra exchange on Friday.
More than 28,000 homes and business in Bunbury now have the fibre to the node NBN technology available to them with homes in the Greater Bunbury area connecting between May and October this year.
The new cabling required to support NBN data transfer has the ability to push information down the line at greater speed compared to ADSL2+ which still relies on copper cable and the NBN will eventually have a greater speed than even cable broadband.
Mayor Gary Brennan and Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino spoke at the official launch.
Ms Marino said the positive affects from the development would be felt throughout the community.
“This advancement has already helped people connect, create jobs for locals and opportunities for local individuals and businesses,” she said.
Telstra area general manager Boyd Brown said over the past six months Telstra was involved in testing FTTN technology ahead of its roll-out.
“As NBN rolls out across Bunbury and surrounds, a world of new opportunities open up with office-like internet speeds at home, entertainment options and countless ways to connect to loved ones,” he said.
Mr Brown also said as of Friday more than 180 Bunbury residents had signed up for an NBN connection.
