The South West Football League selectors have named their initial squad for the 2016 Landmark Country Football Championships.
Coach Jamie Nani will oversee the 54 man squad which will be narrowed down ready to take on other leagues for ultimate supremacy.
The South West have dominated the competition for a long time now, winning the last five editions.
The fixtures for the competition have undergone a change this year which WA Country Football League General Manager Joe Georgiades said had been changed to deliver several benefits to competing teams, while ensuring the strong tradition of representative football continued.
“Some of the key benefits of the changes include more involvement for country communities with games being played in the regions, ensuring the best players are available to represent their League and providing greater development opportunities,” he said.
“We want to deliver a memorable experience for everyone who participates in the Landmark Championships and are confident that these changes will help us deliver this objective.”
Senior leagues will play their first match in country WA with the South West hosting Peel at Hands Oval on June 19.
The South West will then play Great Northern and Avon on July 9 at HBF Arean in Joondalup in the hope of qualifying for the grand final on Sunday, June 10 at Medibank Stadium in Leederville.
