From today, Crime Stoppers WA are targeting the South West region for a two-week intensive Dob in a Dealer drug campaign aimed at gathering information for WA Police intelligence about local drug dealing activity.
Local residents are asked to report information about the manufacture and distribution of crystal methylamphetamine (‘ice’) and other illegal drugs.
Crime Stoppers WA chief executive Kim Harrison said people can contact Crime Stoppers to anonymously identify drug dealers and help to reduce the supply of drugs in this area.
“Illegal drugs like ice have a devastating impact on families,” said Mr Harrison.
“We need the public to be active to fight the scourge of this drug.”
“In 2014-15, a total of 429 drug trafficking offences in this region were reported or became known to police. With the support of local citizens, we are aiming to track down even more drug dealers in this region.”
WA Police South West District Superintendent Mick Sutherland said the ice scourge needs a whole-of-community response and this campaign empowers community members to play their part by providing reports on untoward activity.
“You are the ears and the eyes of the South West,” he said.
“Drugs in the South West are epidemic and out of control. We must work together now to fight this.”
