West Australian politicians Tony Simpson and Tony Buti led the Ride Against Domestic Violence from Margaret River to Perth to raise awareness and money for women’s refuges.
The group passed through a number of South West towns on Friday including Bunbury where they were met by Waratah and Bunbury Choose Respect.
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli said family and domestic violence can occur in all areas of the populations with women and children overwhelmingly the victims.
“Our refuges do an admirable job in helping people get their lives back on track when their trust has been shattered,” he said.
“A change of culture is needed and every member of our community can be part of that change, with respect for self and others being a starting point.”
Mr Simpson said having two politicians on the ride was a great way to raise awareness about the issue because it got people talking about it
