Salvation Army volunteer Yvonne Irwin went an extra mile on Sunday, May 29 to raise funds for the Red Shield Appeal by hosting a high tea.
Salvation Army Lieutenant Harriet Farquhar said the high tea was a great step towards introducing a different way to fundraise and bring some fun to the cause.
“We’re really pleased with Yvonne’s efforts, 40 to 50 people turned out for the event and raised 500 dollars over the afternoon which is fantastic,” she said.
“There’s so much demand for everyone’s dollar these days, we know we’re not the only charity out there, so by having people dress up and come out for a high tea helps give something in return.”
The high tea comes at the peak of the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal as reported on in last week’s edition of the Bunbury Mail, where the group have been working tirelessly to raise the funds needed.
Ms Farquhar said the appeal has been been doing better than last year.
“We’re getting a great response so far, I think the sudden cold weather has got the community thinking.”
