A large crowd of customers queued up early to be first through the door at the Aldi Australind store.
Richard Jackson was first in line having taking his wife, who works in the store, to work at 7.30am.
“I’m looking forward to getting inside to purchase a train set for my 18 month old grandson,” he said.
“I’ve shopped at Aldi in the Eastern States previously and have always been impressed with the high quality fresh produce.
“The specials they offer are also really special.”
Mr Jackson said his wife had spent the last six weeks training for her new job and would be doing a bit of everything.
Australind Shopping Centre owner Paul Vukelic was at the opening and couldn’t wipe the smile off his face.
“It’s great to have the first Aldi outside the metropolitan area here in Australind,” he said.
‘Aldi are remarkable and they really are cheaper.
“It is expected they will capture 15 per cent of supermarket business in Western Australia.
“It’s been a long journey to get them here and Aldi have been a delight to deal with.”
Staff and customers at the store cut a ribbon to officially open the store at 8.30am.
Aldi Australind will be open from 8.30am to 7pm Monday to Wednesday and Friday with extended trading hours until 9pm on Thursday. The store will also be open from 8.30am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
