UPDATE: The family of Bunbury seven-year-old Aidan Smithies, have released a statement after his passing on Saturday.
“With a deepest sadness, on Saturday, doing one of the things he loved most in life, our precious little man was tragically taken from us,” it read.
“He'll be always in our hearts. Thank you to the local community and all who were there. Rest in peace our little man.”
EARLIER: A seven-year-old boy riding a motorcycle has died after he veered off a track and struck a tree near Katanning on Saturday afternoon.
A police spokesman said the Bunbury boy died despite the desperate efforts of paramedics to revive him.
"About 4:15pm Police were notified by St John Ambulance that they were in attendance at a motorcycle crash at a gravel pit about 10km north of the Katanning town site and required a safe landing area for the RAC Rescue Helicopter," he said.
"Police attended to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. It appears the child was riding the motorcycle on the track when for an unknown reason it left the track and struck a tree."
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
