A serious crash at the Targa Bunbury Sprint has seen a driver taken to hospital and power cut to a number of South West suburbs.
Driver Mark Greenham hit a power pole while competing on the Halifax circuit and suffered leg injuries.
The Mail understands his co-driver Steph Esterbauer escaped injury.
Just last month, Greenham and co-driver Mandy Lister claimed victory in the 2016 Quit Targa South West race in Manjimup.
The crash caused a loss of power to suburbs including Carey Park, Glen Iris, Davenport, Bunbury and Gelorup.
The Western Power website estimates power will be back on between 4pm and 5.30pm Sunday.
One local resident, Noel Michie, contacted the Bunbury Mail to ask why car racing is allowed in a built up area.
“Why should people be inconvenienced with no power when they do not have anything to do with racing,” he said.
“Can we not find somewhere that will not disrupt the locals?”
