An Australind family has a tale of warning for others about the dangers of accidentally leaving appliances on when not at home.
Two trucks from the Eaton-Australind Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service attended a home on Barnes Avenue, Australind about 7.30pm on Sunday after a neighbour called to report the smell of smoke.
The homeowner told the Mail he and his wife were out having dinner when they got a call from their neighbour saying she had smelt smoke and they should come right away.
The cause of the emergency was a pot left unattended on the stove which burnt dry.
The homeowner said no one was injured and there was no significant damage to the home other than a strong smell of smoke.
He praised his “angel” of a neighbour who was quick to act before things got any worse.
