Telstra says the countdown is on to close its old 2G network and they’re encouraging residents and businesses still using 2G mobile phones to update their technology.
Telstra Area General Manager Boyd Brown said 2G traffic had seriously declined in the 20 years since it was introduced.
“Times have changed and 2G traffic now accounts for less than one per cent of our network traffic.”
Mr Brown said Telstra will close down its 2G network on December 1 and to find out if you’re still on 2G it’s as simple as looking at the top of your phone screen.
“If you see either 2G, GPRS, E or EDGE displayed that means you are using 2G,” he said.
The switch over requires a new SIM card or a new SIM card and a new phone but customers won’t need to change their mobile plans plan.
