The Bunbury Repertory Club is tackling David Williamson’s classic tale of managerial power abuse The Club with local talent Ron Tait at the helm. Tait is a veteran in stage acting but this will be his directorial debut after 30 years experience.
Tait said the story takes place in the 70s and begins to explores some of the changes Australian football was undergoing at the time.
“The Club takes place in the 70s and we’ve kept it that way we haven’t changed it to a contemporary setting so it becomes almost a period piece,” he said.
“There are only six characters in the show, but their agendas and personalities really begin to clash over a few different things and it explores some of the changes happening in football at the time.”
Spamalot actor Gary Donovan is making his second stage appearance in David Williamson’s The Club as the coach. He said he plays a character who is honest in a cast of deceitful characters.
“I’m playing Larry the coach, and the entire show is set over one night and my character is really the only one with the clubs best interests in mind,” he said.
“A lot of the shows conflict is revolving around a high profile player who is getting paid a lot of money and I’m just trying to keep it real.”
Opening night for David Williamson’s The Club is Thursday July 21 at 8 pm with performances starting 8 pm on July 22, 23, 28,29,30 and Matinees July 24 and 31 at 2 pm. For tickets visit trybooking.com/LHOO
