A local boy is about to embrace his wild side in a Perth production of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies.
Luke Callaghan has been cast as Perceval in the tale of a group of boys who become trapped on an island after their plane crashes.
Luke said he was delighted to be playing the part of Perceval and has been making the trip to Perth three times a week for rehearsals.
“I’m very committed to the production, I want audiences to walk away from it feeling they have not only experienced a fantastic play but always remember it as a classic,” he said.
Bunbury’s young talent is already lined up to appear in another short film and has shown his talent previously in school plays, TV commercials and had a speaking role with New Zealand actor Sam Neil in “House of Hancocks”.
Directed by the talented and award winning Sarah Christiner, Lord of the Flies is a coming of age story with Nigel Williams’ stage adaptation highlighting the brutal reality of surviving alone in the elements.
The story starts at the beginning of World War II and children are being sent away from the cities for safety.
At first the boys revel in their new-found freedom but as time passes, tensions rise and fears come out of hiding.
Their fragile sense of order begins to collapse, and island life takes a turn towards the primitive and sinister.
See Luke Callaghan in the classic story of conflict and survival showing on July 29 and 30 and on August 1, 3, 5 and 6 with matinees on July 31 and August 6 and 7.
