The state government has committed funding to the City of Bunbury to improve a section of the local bicycle network.
Thirty local governments received a share of more than $3.5 million over two years to further improve Western Australia’s cycling infrastructure as a result of the Department of Transport’s 2016-17 grants program.
Included in the funding is support to improve a 1.6 kilometre of shared path along Bussell Highway in Bunbury between Washington Avenue and Centenary Road.
Transport minister Dean Nalder said the 2016-17 investment would see the creation of 15 kilometres of shared paths which would separate cyclists from motorists.
"This cash injection into WA's cycling network will help ensure local infrastructure meets the needs of the state's growing cycling community," Mr Nalder said.
Overall, the state government has committed $44.6 million until 2019-20 for the Principal Shared Path program, local government grants and the bike boulevards program.
