The showers got a workout on Saturday night as Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault Lions pulled four important premiership points out of the mud in a low scoring affair with the Bunbury Bulldogs.
Squelching their way around Brunswick Oval, both sides kicked one goal in the first term while HBL also added six behinds.
Just one goal to the Bulldogs in the second quarter saw them trail by one point at the main break. The Lions added the only goal of the third term and while the Bulldogs nailed two in the final term, the growing behind count saw HBL secure victory 2.11.23 to 3.3.21.
Despite taking the win, the Lions fell to third on the premiership ladder after the Harvey Bulls notched a dominate away win over Busselton on the same night.
Both teams nailed one major in the first term and at the main break, the Bulls led by just six points.
Harvey showed their dominance in the second half piling on eight goals to one against a young but determined Magpies side to see the scoreboard read 12.12.84 to 4.6.30 at the final siren.
On Sunday, South Bunbury continued to show why they are the side to beat if you want the 2016 flag, defeating Collie by 18 points.
Playing the Eagles on their home turf is never an easy task but the Tigers got off to a great start, kicking two unanswered goals in the first term. By the main break the margin had been cut to seven points.
Both sides plugged away in the second half with South Bunbury climbing over the top of Collie late 8.6.54 to 4.12.36.
Donnybrook’s chances of playing finals slipped a little further away after a shock loss to Augusta-Margaret River.
Hosting the Hawks, the Dons looked strong early leading by 15 points at the first change. The plucky Hawks trimmed the margin to eight at half time and surprised the crowd as they drew ahead in the third term.
By the time the final siren, the Hawks had notched their second win of the year 9.10.64 to 8.9.57.
The Dons are now two games outside the top five with six rounds to go.
Eaton also scored their second win of the year with a four goal win over Carey Park.
The Panthers were quick out of the blocks kicking five straight goals in the first quarter to lead by six points.
Both teams continued to push their way around Boyanup Oval with the margin trimmed to three points at the main break.
The Boomers lifted the intensity in the third term, holding the Panthers scoreless while adding two goals to the board. By the final siren, Eaton led 10.16.76 to 8.4.52.
