THE spotlight was shone on Bunbury’s trade and economic position when Perth’s Consulate General for the Republic of China Mr Lei Kezhong visited for the first time last Friday.
While in Bunbury, Mr Kezhong visited local meatworks V & V Walsh Meat Processors and Exporters and attended a briefing with the South West Development Commission.
The movers and shakers of the region flocked to The Rose Hotel for a luncheon where the Consulate General, his wife and his consulate team were officially welcomed.
“I am deeply impressed by the scenery, abundant sunshine, great food and wine as well as the friendly and hospitable people,” Mr Kezhong said.
“The main purpose of my visit is to communicate with local government and commercial communities and friends in this region in order to learn more about the economy.
“Especially in areas such as agriculture, tourism and other industries so as to share information with more Chinese investors and tourists to find potential opportunities for future cooperation.”
Mr Kezhong also highlighted the bilateral trade point between China and Western Australia which stands at 59.4 billion Australian dollars and accounts for 38% of Australia’s total trade.
Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries President David Kerr delivered the opening speech to the luncheon and said he looked forward to sustaining long-term relations between the two sister cities.
