Bunbury Barbarians Junior Rugby Union Club will join clubs, businesses and schools putting their best foot forward for the McGrath Foundation’s Pull On Your Socks event.
The local club are set to host a Pull on Your Socks Carnival on Sunday which will see each of the club’s players don special pink socks for their Sunday game.
The event will provide an opportunity to raise money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities nationally and to increase breast awareness in young Australians.
McGrath Foundation director and ambassador Tracy Bevan said the event will play a vital role in achieving the foundation’s mission of ensuring every family impacted by breast cancer has access to a dedicated breast care nurse, no matter where they live or their financial situation.
“Our McGrath Breast Care Nurses are at the heart of what we do at the foundation,” she said.
“They’ve helped to support over 40,000 families in Australia experiencing breast cancer. We’re encouraging everyone to put their best foot forward to pull on your socks to help make this our biggest and pinkest yet.”
Bunbury Barbarians Junior Rugby Union Club president Kim Doyle said the club are pleased to have a family focus that supports the community. “Hosting an event like this is our way of giving back to our wider community,” she said.
“Our pull on your socks carnival will include hosting teams from all over the South West including teams from Busselton, Bunbury and the newly formed Albany Junior Rugby Union Club.
“We look forward to a fun day on and off the rugby field – all for a good cause.”
The club’s games will be run between 12pm and 2.30pm on Sunday at Leschenault Recreation Park.
Doyle said she hopes everyone coming will get into the spirit of the day by wearing pink and donating to the worthy cause.
The foundation started after Jane McGrath’s personal experience with breast cancer and has seen a team of passionate and dedicated people come together and step up to the challenge of making life for families experiencing breast cancer just that little bit easier.
Since 2005, the McGrath Foundation has helped support a vast amount of Australian families experiencing breast cancer, with 110 McGrath Breast Care Nurses working in Australia.
