The all-girl punk-pop band out of Melbourne, Tequila Mockingbyrd are going to be at the Prince of Wales on Saturday spreading the good times with their tunes in the vein of Motorhead and Grinspoon.
The Mail had a chat with vocalist and guitarist Estelle Artois to see how they’re coping with touring, their new record Fight and Flight and their first time at the Prince.
Although the group are well travelled having toured around Australia and even farther flung when they toured the Middle East the one state Estelle and the band haven’t been to is Western Australia.
“I’ve never made my way over to WA before but I’m very excited, we’ll be playing in Scarborough with Legs Electric before we make our way down to the Prince,” she said.
“I hope the Prince has a lot of energy, we bring a lot of energy to the stage it’s always best when the audience pushes that back at us, no one wants a show where everyone is standing their with their arms crossed.”
For Estelle and fellow band mates Josie O’Toole and Jess Reily touring has come as a welcome reprieve from their day jobs.
“We like to get around as much as we can and since we work during the week getting out on weekends, playing shows and just having a good time is great.”
Tequila Mockingbyrd will no-doubt be showcasing the songs of their new record which Estelle said brings inspirations from the every band member.
“We’re all into different music, so we bring inspirations from all around, I’m into punk-pop, classic rock and blues so we’re quite diverse.”
This Saturday might be one of the last times Tequila will be floating around Australia for a long time as all three have one-way tickets to the United Kingdom to play to the European crowd.
“We have got our tickets and no plans to come back and everyone has made the decision that the next step is to go international,” she said.
“If it doesn't work out it’s not the end of the world, we can come back whenever we want but we have some festivals lined up over there already so I’m very excited to get over there.”
Tequila Mockingbyrd will be at the Prince this Saturday and will be selling their new record after the show.
