The local Bel Canto Choir are presenting a variety concert featuring the talented achapella group the Ballpoint Penguins.
Choir member Judyth Salom said The Bel Canto Choir is made up of 30 dedicated singers who are dedicated and passionate about music.
“We love singing and we love performing for people we go and sing at festivals, we were recently at a festival at Fairbridge,” she said.
For Judyth and the choir, singing is a way to stay active and to maintain a sense of belonging in the community.
“Our new musical director has written a song about why we sing and it talks about why we are so passionate about playing, it’s about church, schools, the community and being connected.”
“We're always improving and talking to each other about how we can get expand our music.”
“The variety concert draws songs from a range of places, there are reflective songs, cabaret songs, The Sound of Music and Les Miserable we really draw from all forms of music.”
The Ballpoint Penguins will be appearing alongside the choir and Judyth could not be more excited.
“I love the Ballpoint Penguins, they’re a really unique group of musicians,” she said.
“We applied for local government funding from the City of Bunbury to get them here and now they’re coming and we want everyone to get along and support us because we have a great show planned.”
The Bel Canto Choir and the Ballpoint Penguins will be appearing at the St Augustines church on Mangles Street on Sunday, August 7 with the show starting at 2 pm.
