Bunbury Runners Club recently presented two local charities with the proceeds of the Women’s Fun Run held on August 7.

The annual event raised $5000 which was used to benefit the South West Refuge and Nixi Teens young mums from Milligan House.

The Women’s Fun Run committee enjoy helping local women’s charities – especially the South West Refuge who accommodate around 250 ladies and children escaping family and domestic violence each year. There are another 100 who seek refuge when the centre is full.

Currently the refuge are raising money to be able to build and turn a current office into a bedroom. These developments will help to accommodate an extra 50 ladies and children.

The second donation went to Nixi, who run a program which works primarily as a preventative program to facilitate the development of skills and knowledge for the young mums to build their capacity as parents and valued community members.

More than 500 women took part in this year’s event, completing a course around Leschenault Inlet.
