The 39th annual Hot FM Surf to Surf Fun Run on October 16 promises new events and activities for the hundreds of runners and walkers expected to take part.
This year the organising committee have introduced a half marathon and the South 32 corporate and team challenge.
The half marathon will start at the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club on Ocean Drive and take runners along the beautiful Back Beack from Mindalong to ‘BP’ Beach and back.
The traditional 10 kilometre run, five kilometre run and five kilometre walk will still be held along Ocean Drive.
The addition of a ‘fast five’ team competition for clubs, gyms, emergency services, government and businesses will add another dimension to the event.
The South 32 Corporate and Team Challenge is open to teams of at least five members from every industry and sector.
With categories like the tradie trot, the retail rumble, the government gallop, clash of the clubs, the foodie flit and the battle of the gyms, the team challenges are shaping up to be a feisty addition to the event.
While the event is underway there will be plenty to keep younger spectators occupied. Hot FM will run an outside broadcast during the event with presenters on site to call all the action as it happens.
The course is accessible to all levels of fitness and ability and offers one of the most scenic routes of all fun runs.
In 2015, close to 1000 energetic runners hit the pavement for the event with Matt Duncan winning the five kilometre run and Jack John crossing the line first in the 10 kilometre run.
The Hot FM Surf to Surf Fun Run is the surf club’s major annual fundraiser with all proceeds supporting the volunteer patrol teams, training, education and youth development activities offered by the club to its members and the public.
