The City of Bunbury has backed the future development of a significant residential area in the Glen Iris area that will cater for up to 700 new homes and 2100 residents.
The draft South Moorlands Structure Plan was last week supported in principle by council and covers a development area of approximately 70 hectares west of Vittoria Road.
The development, on land owned by the Piacentini family, would include a range of housing densities to allow for a variety of residential options.
Council reports despite the project area consisting of mostly grassland, the structure plan has been proactive by taking into consideration wetland areas identified as having environmental, ecological or cultural significance.
Along with with the significant number of residential lots, there is substantial public open space planned to create a “walkable” community and areas for recreation.
Specific attention has been paid to traffic management, in particular the impact of an increased number of vehicles using Vittoria Road.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the project was another demonstration of confidence in the City’s future.
“I congratulate Colin and Ann Piacentini and their family on securing the City’s support of their South Moorlands residential structure plan,” Cr Brennan said.
“The project is a credit to the Piacentini family’s vision and commitment to Bunbury.
“This is an exciting and welcome development for Bunbury that will provide a significant number of medium to higher density lots.”
The project still has regulatory processes to negotiate prior to formal endorsement by the Western Australian Planning Commission and before any work can begin.
