Bunbury has spoken and a list of top five priorities for the future of state government has been collated from a survey conducted by the City of Bunbury.
Council recently asked the community for responses with the intention to provide the resulting list of priorities to candidates for the seat of Bunbury in the 2017 state election.
A total of 188 submissions was received following promotion through local and social media and elected members also provided their priorities.
1. Fast Train
Respondents said they would like a fast train service to Bunbury as a priority project.
2. Better bike or pedestrian paths
Many responses indicated they would like to see an improved cycling and/or pedestrian network throughout the city.
3. Improved tourism and more drawcards
People expressed a variety of responses expressing a desire for strategies to attract more tourists to Bunbury and creating specific drawcards to make this happen.
4. Waterfront development
This priority was communicated in a variety of ways but the overarching opinion was that people wanted to see a commitment to the Waterfront Development, which included its quick implementation and bringing forward stage two. There were also calls for action on a new marina and redevelopment of the Outer Harbour.
5. Drug rehabilitation facility and services
Many people asked that a drug rehab facility be built in Bunbury and their responses also included an improvement in services for addicts, particularly the users of methamphetamine.
