WA Labor wants the doyen of Australian Rules football commentators - Dennis Cometti - to be honoured at the new Perth stadium.
Cometti, who will retire after the Western Bulldogs and Sydney Swans AFL Grand Final on Saturday, has entertained football fans for three decades with his hilarious puns and quirky commentary.
Labor leader Mark McGowan says the broadcasting legend deserved to have his name etched at the new Perth stadium at Burswood.
Mr McGowan said the $2 billion facility could pay homage to Cometti with either a media centre named after him; the entrance to the stadium or even a statue for the 67-year-old.
"Dennis' career as a broadcaster has been centimetre perfect," Mr McGowan said copying one of Cometti's great one-liners.
"His contribution to sports, broadcasting and the media should be properly acknowledged and etched into our state's history.
"Dennis is an asset to Western Australia, we can all be proud of his outstanding contribution as a world class commentator.
"It has been a remarkable career and I wish him all the very best for his final call tomorrow."
Before fronting the microphone, Cometti was a handy footballer having played 60 games for his beloved West Perth in the late 60s.
He also coached West Perth for three years in the early 80s with little success.
Cometti was also a respected cricket caller for the ABC for 13 years and was the youngest person in the broadcaster's history to call a Test Match at the age of 23, back in 1973.
The Channel 7 commentator also has a connection to the Western Bulldogs after he was recruited by the club in 1971, but failed to play a senior game.
