The Bunbury Relay for Life is just around the corner and teams around town are getting ready to put in the yards to support cancer research here’s everything you need to know about Relay For Life Bunbury-Southwest 2016.
Preperations have already began to transform Payne Park for this year’s relay and Relay for Life logistics officer Wendy Maslin said she was thrilled to see such support after 14 years.
“This has brought people who have a been touched by cancer together to share stories and support for those on a cancer journey,” Ms Maslin said.
The day begins with an opening ceremony at 11am followed by the first lap of the oval undertaken by survivors of cancer.
At 8pm there will be a candlelight ceremony to remember those who have lost their journey with cancer.
Ms Maslin said she encouraged anyone who felt obliged to light a candle or present an offering for a lost loved one would be able to do so.
“Everyone is welcome to decorate an remembrance offering or a photo tribute and present it at 8pm,” she said.
Ms Maslin is encouraging cancer survivors to get involved by taking the first lap of the oval.
Ms Maslin said she’s thrilled they’ve been able to maintain the level of sponsorship over 14 years but it was time to say goodbye to some and hello to others.
“We have some very dedicated sponsors like Cable West who have always managed to help us keep the relay going with power,” she said.
“Unfortunately they can’t be involved this year but it’s okay because they’re passing the torch onto Laser Electrical.”
The 24 hour event ends with a closing ceremony at 11am.
Relay for Life is at Payne Park on November 5 to 6.
