Local musicians Ross Day from the Bunbury band Longshore and drummer Bodhi Nichols are teaming up to bring a project they hope will be fresh and original for Bunbury.
Night at the Palace is the pair’s latest project and it’s going to see Longshore and Perth bands Havoc and FINDERS heading to Bunbury to play a one night gig of metal music at The Prince of Wales Hotel.
Ross said he hopes the debut free event is the first of many steps to turn Bunbury into a music hub and attract creative minds to Bunbury.
“The problem in Bunbury is we’re so far away from everything, the east coast have a musical monopoly at the moment, a lot of the bigger music comes from over there and we miss out,” Ross said.
“We have a lot of talented musicians here trying to create music but they just don’t have any outlet, we need like minded individuals in the one place.”
Bodhi said the project was a step in the right direction to creating a mini-festival in Bunbury.
“Looking at Byron Bay and what that’s become since Parkway Drive emerged, it’s become a music hub in Australia, and we think Bunbury has that potential,” he said.
“It’s still early but we would like this to become Bunbury’s mini-festival.
“We want this to grow and expand and become inclusive of all kinds of music, I don’t want it closed into a box and we’ll work with the city to see it happens.”
Night at the Palace will be debuting on Friday, November 25 at The Prince Of Wales Hotel.
