The John Boyle O’Reilly Association’s short film In Search of the Vigilant about convict John Boyle O’Reilly’s bid to escape to America.
The film was shot entirely on location in the Bunbury region using local actors, cinema photographers, makeup artists and costumes designers.
The short is part of a bigger project and is using as a teaser in hope of securing crowd funding for a bigger film production titled Rebel with a Cause which is based on the time John Boyle O’Reilly spent in Western Australia before his famous escape to America.
The sneak preview of its short film to invited guests this Fri at Waters Edge Cafe, Cobblestone St, Bunbury at 4pm.
JBOA member and writer-director Peter Murphy said everyone who’s been involved in the project have been very dedicated.
“We’ve been busy filming for a couple of months, so we thought it only proper to show those involved in the project work completed so far to help shore up enthusiasm as filming has been tough, especially dealing with hordes of mosquitoes, ticks and the odd snake on the remote peninsula,” he said.
“We also hope to enter the film in the 2017 CinefestOZ short film category.”
Bunbury teenager Lachlan Kelly plays the main role as John Boyle O’Reilly while Boyup Brook documentary maker Kim Redman’s camera work captures the natural beauty of the region’s landscape.
