Pulling apart and fixing a faulty photocopying machine while working as a receptionist was a catalyst for Bunbury woman Bianca Timbers to pursue a career as a mechanic.
Mother-of-three Bianca Timbers was underestimated and laughed at when she sought work experience as an apprentice mechanic.
Fully qualified since 2007, she is the owner of newly opened Treendale mechanic workshop True Revolution Automotive.
The only female in her cohort while completing her apprenticeship in TAFE, Bianca hopes to inspire young women to pursue work in male-dominated industries and challenge the status quo.
"I'd call up places for work and even offer free work and they would laugh at me and say "You know you're going to have to get your hands dirty right?," she said.
"I look back at how far I've come and want to tell girls out there that if they have a dream to jump in there, give it a go and everything you've got.
"It's not worth it to not give it a go just because you're the only female in a room full of guys because at the end of the day, you might just end up being their boss."
A problem-solver at heart, Bianca who works both on reception and out on the floor, loves a challenge and thrives off helping her clients with their automotive issues.
"I love finding the source of the problem and fixing it, it keeps my mind active and it's very rewarding when I can help my client," she said.
"The best part of the job is developing relationships with my customers and learning about new cars and new techniques."
Acknowledged for her success as a business woman and mentor, Bianca has been invited to be a guest speaker at a Motor Traders Association event in Perth next year where she will address female mechanics in the industry.
