The 2016 Relay For Life Bunbury-Southwest is underway with hundreds of colourful contributors taking to the Payne Park track for the annual event.
Every year dozens of teams join in the 24 hour relay in support of the Cancer Council’s research into a cure.
Cancer survivors and their carers completed the first lap, led by members of the Bunbury City Band.
Teams then spent the early afternoon dancing and laughing as they reconnected with friends from relays past and introduced themselves to new ones.
But this year’s event also comes with a sad note for many, with the passing of Bunbury Toyota team captain Shane Krikke to cancer in June.
At 8pm, there will be a candlelight ceremony to remember those who have lost their journey with cancer.
Participants will be given the chance to light a candle or present an offering for a lost loved one.
So far this year, more than $181,000 has been raised for the event.
