Eaton suffered their first loss of the 2016/17 Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association season in round eight after Hay Park coach and player Chris Waddingham tore the Beavers apart with six wickets.
Eaton won the toss and elected to bowl. Opener Jono Whitney (5) fell early before Michael Tassone (23), Graham Yates (34) and Dave Taylor (45) set the Redbacks up for a good score.
Eaton’s Clint Hewson tidied up the middle order quickly to finish with the excellent figures of 5/19 before Waddingham added 25 runs late to see Hay Park end on 9/162.
Eaton’s chase began well with James Hilllery (13), Don Seaman (11), Justin Prentice (11) and Matt Davies (19) all making starts. But a devastating spell from paceman Waddingham saw him collect 6/14 from eight overs to see Eaton all out for just 86.
Waddingham’s six included four consecutive batsmen edging to wicketkeeper Ashley Sbizzirri.
Yet again, a stunning solo knock from Colts batsman Murray Goodwin secured his side a dominant win over Dalyellup Beach.
Goodwin was at the crease early with son Jayden out third ball for a duck. He then proceeded to take the Settlers bowlers to task, blasting 141 not out from 136 balls. The knock included 13 boundaries and three sixes, lifting his 2016/17 batting average to 246.5.
With assistance from Cruize Ciallella (49) and Nick Barr (26), Colts posted 3/237. Dalyellup Beach were then bowled out for 120 with Paul Jones top scoring with 41.
Marist continued their push up the ladder with a 22 run defeat of Leschenault. Openers Cory Fitt (59) and Adam Spinelli (44) got Marist away to a great start and runs from Corey Laker (38) further down the order saw the side finish 7/189.
Kris Cumming was the pick of Leschenault’s bowlers with 4/30 from 10 overs.
After the innings break, a number of the Green Caps batsmen scored early runs including Scott Langford (19), Matt Buchanan (11) and Tom Buchanan (33).
Rodney Shemeld (16) and Brad Gaylard (10) added runs in the middle order while James Letchford (21) and Jay Crossman (26) had a strong eighth wicket partnership.
But no one went on to turn their start into a half century which would have got Leschenault home. Marist managed to keep grabbing wickets to dismiss the Green Caps for 167. Ben Shipley was best for Marist with 3/29.
This Saturday, Eaton will host Leschenault, Marist will host Colts and Hay Park will host Dalyellup Beach.
