A TOLL truck carrying 200 war memorial artifacts, field guns, artillery pieces and more as part of the Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience exhibition will soon make its way to the Eaton Recreation Centre.
Shire of Dardanup president Michael Bennett was proud to make the announcement to a gathering of Bunbury RSL members, community groups and local government representatives at a meeting last Thursday.
Mr Bennett said the Shire had a very strong Anzac tradition and he was grateful to have the flagship community event visit Eaton.
“The significance of us hosting this event on behalf of the whole South West region firmly places the Shire of Dardanup and the town centre of Eaton on the map,” he said.
“We very much look forward to inviting visitors from across the South West, the Great Southern and even Perth to come down and enjoy the experience and even potentially for the first time experience what we have to offer.
“Most importantly, the chance to host the landmark exhibition on home turf means a great deal to local families whose relatives served in the first World War – some of whom lost their lives in the process.”
Executive manager of the Australian War Memorial Major General Brian Dawson said the exhibition was a large logistic undertaking of more than 1200 square metres and features stories of Australians just before, during and the aftermath of World War I.
Major-General Dawson said the travelling exhibition would make its 18th pit stop in Eaton in January and encouraged residents from across the region to check out the stories on offer.
Entry to the Spirit of Anzac Exhibition is free but bookings online are encouraged at www.spiritofanzac.gov.au
The exhibition will be held at the Eaton Recreation Centre from January 11-16 from 9am-530pm.
