For a fourth straight year the dedicated members of the Bunbury Woodturners group have finished a generous Christmas donation.
Each year the group get to work on their lathes to produce 100 wooden bowls.
The bowls are then filled with chocolates and sweets donated by Woolworths and Coles and presented to Silver Chain, who deliver them as presents to their high care clients.
Bunbury Woodturners convenor Lyn Poli said the groups 52 members start each February and work on the bowls steadily through the year to reach the magic number by the start of December.
“We got the idea from a club in Perth and we keen to use our skills to do some good for the community,” she said.
“Silver Chain are always very happy to receive our donation and have told us their clients are delighted with the end result.”
Mrs Poli said woodturning was not a difficult skill to learn but takes time and practice to perfect.
“There is a certain knack to it and some of our very proficient members can turn out a bowl in half-an-hour to an hour,” she said.
