Round 10 of the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association 2016/17 season saw Marist hold on for a narrow win over Dalyellup Beach.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, a total of 7/213 was set up by a great second wicket partnership between Tyler Mcgladdery (56) and Cory Fitt (95). Late innings runs from captain Matt Anderson (24) were also appreciated by Marist.
Liam Renton was the pick of Dalyellup’s bowlers, taking 3/38.
Dalyellup’s chase started well with openers Tim Cooper (21) and Daniel Lomax (16) getting going.
Scott Harber (24), Paul Jones (40) and Adam Bilston (41) also made solid contributions, but no one went on to turn their good start into the large score that would have got the Settlers home.
The tail fell away quickly and while Renton added 27 runs late, Dalyellup Beach were bowled out six runs short of the target.
Chris Laker captured 3/36 for Marist from 10 overs.
Colts got the better of Eaton at home on Saturday. The Beavers batted first and were bowled out for 148 after former Colts star Clayton Caltsounis slogged 60 runs against his old side.
Colts opener Jayden Goodwin (58) took his time to build a solid foundation at the crease for his side and with help from Jordan Stynes (20) and Joe Barningham (33), the home team claimed victory with four wickets still in hand.
Caltsounis was the best for Eaton with the ball, taking 2/11.
Hay Park also scored an important win over Leschenault to move to third on the ladder.
Batting first, the Green Caps posted 133 with Tom Buchanan (35), James Letchford (20), Scott Langford (14) and Jake Eardley-Wilmot (14) led the way with the bat for Leschenault.
Once again, Chris Waddingham shone with the ball for the Redbacks, claiming the impressive figures of 4/16 from six overs. Michael Tassone also impressed as a magnet in the field with four catches.
With only a small chase on their hands, the Redbacks made surprisingly hard work of it, losing eight wickets on the way to 134. Kris Miller (37), Mark Steven (32) and Ashley Sbizzirri (37 not out) were left to do the bulk of the work.
Local cricket action returns with round 11 on Sunday, January 29.
