South West agrifood companies have benefited from an initiative which markets their brand on a government website giving them an extra introduction to international markets.
Fishbone winery owner and former director of Harvey Fresh Kevin Sorgiovanni travelled to Singapore in December to launch the website WA Worth Sharing with ambassadors from WA companies and Premier Colin Barnett.
The audience included food and beverage importers and buyers and media.
Mr Sorgiovanni who has extensive experience dealing with Asian markets said the website added credibility to their brand in an international market.
“We jumped on board because we believed in it,” he said.
“I think it is great because we can direct people to these sites and it adds weight to what we are doing.
“If you are dealing with someone in the UK or US they do not know who you are or who they are dealing with so there is a little bit of uncertainty.
“I was on the phone the other day and the person said, I have seen your product on the website, I said I had another site which was a government site, and they said, oh there is a government site.
“All of a sudden it gives you another level of credibility and it changes the nuances.”
Vasse MP Libby Mettam said it was an exciting initiative that helped diversify the economy through the expansion of WA’s agrifood sector.
Ms Mettam said it would help grow WA’s agriculture industry through promotion in international markets.
