An Eaton man was fined $1000 in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Thursday and faces further sentencing later this year after being convicted of four drugs charges.

James Baird pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply, cultivation of cannabis, possession of $3340 which had been unlawfully obtained and possession of cannabis following a police search of his home on September 23, 2016.

The court heard police found three cannabis plants and 20 grams of cannabis leaf at the 58-year-old’s address.

Counsel for Baird said his client was a long-term cannabis smoker, having started using the drug when he was 18, but had since stopped.

On top of the fine, Baird must also pay court costs of $188.

He will face the Bunbury District Court for sentencing on the more serious charges on June 26.
