Major Crash officers are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Capel about 4.45pm on Saturday.
A green Toyota Landcruiser was travelling north in the southbound lanes of Bussell Highway when it collided with a white Toyota Rav4 that was travelling south on Bussell Highway, about 100 metres south of the Capel Drive intersection.
The Landcruiser rolled and the driver was thrown from the vehicle before it came to rest right side up and caught on fire.
The driver, a 45-year-old man from Usher was the sole occupant of the Landcruiser.
He sustained critical injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital.
A 61-year-old woman from Geographe who was the driver of the Toyota Rav4 died at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 54-year-old woman from Busselton, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to the Bunbury Health Campus before being airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital.
Major Crash investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the crash or the Toyota Landcruiser prior to the crash travelling on:-
• Wonnerup Beach, Busselton;
• Layman Road, Busselton and
• Bussell Highway from Busselton to the Capel Drive intersection.
