The annual Ellis Trophy competition run by Bunbury Moorabinda Croquet Club has drawn to a close after three weeks of entertaining action at the Hay Park croquet complex.
Twenty club members participated in the golf croquet doubles competition with a number keen to prove they have bettered their game in the past 12 months.
To even up the competition an experienced player is partnered with a newer player and as a result it turned out to be a very close contest in the final rounds.
The eventual winners were Max Woolf and Gary Phipps which will come as a great encouragement to the latter who only joined the club the day before the competition started.
Club secretary John Jury said Phipps has been practising to improve his playing skills and with the expert guidance of the more experienced Woolf, the pair became a formidable team with a solid dose of tactics working well.
Jury said Phipps' future in the sport looks assured and next year he will no doubt be paired with a newer player.
