A Bunbury Development Committee is on the cards to direct the development of Casuarina Harbour, Withers and Glen Iris.
The proposal comes from Labor shadow minister Rita Saffioti who announced the committee would go ahead if Labor secured government in March.
The committee would be formed under delegation from the Western Australian Planning Commission and supported by the South West Development Commission.
The committee would consist of six community and business figures to focus on the Bunbury Waterfront, Casuarina Harbour, Withers and Glen Iris.
Candidate for Bunbury, Don Punch said they were looking for people with good commerce and planning skills to man the committee.
“The committee would be focused on seeing the Casuarina Harbour finished by 2022,” he said.
Ms Saffioti said the BDC would allow locals to determine how the region progressed.
“Local decision making is vital to progress these important projects and the value of local knowledge just can not be understated,” she said.
Mr Punch also announced they would be investing $60,000 in the Bunbury PCYC for an “Ice Breakers” pilot program that would use recovered addicts to discourage young people from the perils of ice.
