Vasse seat summary
Vasse MP Libby Mettam is the favourite to win the South West seat on Saturday, after spending the last two and a half years consolidating her 2014 byelection victory following the resignation of former WA treasurer Troy Buswell.
The Liberal vote in Vasse dropped dramatically in the byelection after the controversial circumstances of Mr Buswell’s departure, dropping from 71.2 per cent of the two-party preferred vote to 53 per cent.
But Ms Mettam is expected to improve on this result and bookmakers have her as all but certain to take out the seat, paying just $1.01 on a win.
The Liberal party has held the seat since it was created in 1950, except for a period of four years when former member Bernie Masters quit the Liberal party after losing preselection to Mr Buswell in 2004.
The Greens poll well in Vasse, taking out 18 per cent of the vote in the 2014 byelection.
