A massive swing against the Colin Barnett’s Liberal government has put the seat of Dawesville down to the wire.
At just after 9pm on the Saturday of the election, neither party was prepared to call the seat but Liberal Zak Kirkup remained “quietly confident” he could win.
“I think they’re [the figures] are trending in the right direction for us, we’ll still be waiting on the majority of pre-voting and postal votes to be counted, but I think we’re in good shape,” he said.
The ABC was predicting Mr Kirkup would retain the seat, after 54.9 per cent of votes counted.
He was ahead on a two party preferred basis with 51 per cent of the vote after withstanding an 11.7 per cent swing against him.
The outcome of the election in Dawesville might not be known for days.
