Bunbury-bred sports star and world renowned scientist Tristan Clemons has been named in the 2017 Kookaburras squad.
National selectors for the Australian men’s hockey team revealed the team set to compete in the Darwin International Hockey Open later this month, with Clemons their most recent addition.
Kookaburras head coach Colin Batch said deciding who would add an extra level of skill to the Kookaburras line up was tough.
“Tristan has been a regular face at an international level over the last few years and has shown he has the talent to progress to the senior squad,” he said.
The molecular scientist has been playing elite field hockey since his debut in 2011 after a number of seasons in the Australian Hockey League for the West Australian Thundersticks.
He will join the team to take on Pakistan in a four-game test at the International Hockey Open in Darwin from March 28 until April 1.
“It’s the start of the new campaign for the Kookaburras with a new coaching staff, a number of new players and some players who have been around the program for a little while,” Batch said.
“I believe the team we have selected will be able to show just why they are ranked number one in the world when they take on Pakistan in the four-game test.”
The team depart for Darwin on Saturday, March 25.
