The 2016/17 Bunbury Turf Club season drew to a close last Wednesday with the running of the Sky Racing TV provincial championship series heat.
Ten horses lined up over 1410 metres for a chance to earn a start in the Ascot-based final.
Just Dougie and apprentice hoop Fiona Bell tried to lead from start to finish but the field flooded home late to relegate the pair to fourth by a short neck.
Jarrad Noske got Main Instigator ($5.10) to bob his head at just the right moment, a nose ahead of Airlie Sun and Not Again Ken, to claim his fifth career win.
The win was the second leg of a double for Noske who triumphed aboard Eight Double Eight ($4.20) in race three.
Ben Paterson won race one by three-quarters of a length with A Good Plan ($3.70) while Ambiente ($3.70) and jockey Joseph Azzopardi thumped the field in race two by more than three lengths.
Favourite Niyachi ($3.60) claimed race four for jockey Jason Whiting by a half length.
Alan Kennedy caused an upset in race five with Chengdu ($23.90) winning by a short neck ahead of Secret Choice and Our Mate Charlie who dead-heated for second in the field of seven runners.
Karlakee Miss ($1.90) won race six, the Arthur River Dash, for apprentice jockey Clint Johnston-Porter by more than two lengths after sitting comfortably in third during early running.
The last of the season was won by Bunbury jockey Glenn Smith aboard Sonnen ($2.40) who lead from start to finish ahead of Triple Express and Boom Boom Bang.
At the end of the meeting William Pike was crowned champion jockey with 22 Bunbury victories in 2016/17, nine ahead of Shaun Mc Gruddy in second.
Jason Whiting, Glenn Smith and Jarrad Noske rounded out the top five.
Randy Tan was crowned best apprentice with six wins while partners Grant and Alana Williams won the training premiership.
Diablerie was named the Bunbury Turf Club horse of the year in a countback.
